A Visit to Roozengaarde – The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

By Mavis Butterfield on March 27, 2016 · 8 Comments

Roozengaarde

I don’t know how I did it, but somehow I convinced my husband to take a two hour drive {4 round trip} out to the Skagit Valley yesterday to check out the tulip fields at RoozenGaarde. And you know what? It was one of the best “date days” we’ve been on all year.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

In 1955 Dutch emigrants William and Helen Roozen started their farm with only 5 acres of land. Nowadays, the company farms over 2,000 acres and is the largest tulip-bulb grower in the country. They sell their bulbs online through the company website Tulips.com, via mail order and onsite at the farm.

In 1985 William and Helen Roozen passed the company down to their children and these days, they grow approximately, 500 acres of daffodils, 350 acres of tulips, 150 acres of iris and 600 acres of wheat on the farm

5 acres to 2000? Not too shabby if you ask me.

The display gardens are breathtaking and worth every penny of the $5 admission fee.

If you are in the area please go visit the Roozengaarde. You will not be disappointed.

Hello spring. You are beautiful!

Looks like he’s still Crazy about you… 🙂
I’ll have to check out the website. I love tulips – although the voles and moles around here do, too. I’ve twice planted over 300 tulip bulbs to have, literally, NONE of them come up the next spring. Now I put them in containers…
    Happy Spring!

What a lovely idea for a date!

There is also one held annually in Albany, NY in a park. Only it is is held in May near Mother’s Day. I like to go mid-week to enjoy the beauty and miss all the crowds.

Such beauty! I would love this for a date. Have you seen the Facebook quote going around that says ‘Here’s to all the girls who like long romantic walks down every aisle at the garden center.’? Sounds fun to me.

I cannot grow tulips here at all. They just become a deer buffet & I never see a bloom.

We’re just a couple minutes off the freeway in Mount Vernon. Next time, stop for a cup of tea!

For anyone who can come to the area, it really is that beautiful. If you look at tulips.com, check out the tulip map – it will show you which fields are blooming at that time.
