After a week sick in bed with the flu, I spent morning yesterday pulling up out the cabbage plants from the side garden that had gone to seed. I can’t even begin to tell you how nice it was to get outside again and get a little dirt under my nails. Being sick is the worst. Especially during the summer months.
Even though we lost the majority of our cabbage this due to the nearly month long heat wave, a few of them are still hanging in there. It’s not enough for sauerkraut, but we should have enough to add in a few side dishes.
The beets I planted in the spring are about a month away from being ready to harvest. This means it’s time to plant another row. I like to serve a huge platter of root vegetables at Thanksgiving every year so if I can start some seeds now, I know they’ll be ready in time for our fall feast.
It’s hard to believe, but there are 2 garden boxes hidden in there.
Life is good.
