With just a few weeks left here on the east coast, I think my idea of planting a few fast growing crops is going to pan out nicely. Check out those spinach leaves!!! I suppose I could pick a few of those tender babies now, but I think I’ll wait until next week when they have grown just a wee bit bigger.
The lettuce is coming along nicely as well.
I weeded my row of radishes yesterday and now that they have a little more room, I think they are going to make their deadline as well.
And with a little bit of luck…. I’ll be able to harvest some chive seeds to bring back home as well.
Down, but not out. The Swiss chard is making a nice comeback {no thanks to Peter Rabbit} and as long as Lucy’s barking keeps him at bay, I may end up with a small harvest after all.
And last but not least… the good stuff. Tomatoes and peppers. I don’t think you can ever plant enough. My fingers are crossed for a bountiful late summer harvest.
Homemade sauce… I can smell it already.
Keep Calm and Garden On.

Do you use chive seeds for anything other than replanting?
I’m enjoying your spring gardening post so much!
Thank you for being such a fabulous teacher!

Love hearing and seeing about your gardens on the opposite coasts! I’m curious, do you have a watering system set up on the east coast?
Mavis Butterfield says
No, not yet. I just mulch really well. Haven’t had to water yet this season.

What do you mulch with? I’m on the east coast also and would like to know what works well for you.

I plan on mulching my garden with a thick layer of newspaper and then hay later this week or early next week. I’ll take photos and post them so everyone can see.
