Sunday in the Garden

Word on the street is we are suppose to have 5 days of SUNSHINE here in the Pacific Northwest. Can you believe it? I guess that means I need to get my act together and finish planning out my vegetable garden this week.

So far this season I’ve planted potatoes, onions, radish, lettuce, peas, carrots and beets. I still need to transplant the Swiss chard and endive I started in under grow lights earlier this year.

Then there’s the front garden bed to deal with. Last fall we had the world’s ugliest tree removed from our lamp post area and I told the HOA that I’d replace it in the spring with either a dogwood or ornamental cherry or pear tree.

Yesterday I had the HH remove a giant rock from the area and this week I hope to get the area completed so I can spend more time in the backyard instead of the front. This is the first neighborhood I’ve ever lived in where I genuinely do not enjoy spending time out front. So many people walk by {and want to chat} it makes me crazy. Yesterday I counted 17 people go by in less than 20 minutes. 9 of which had something to say.

I told the HH I might just have to go hide out on the East coast this summer. Maybe I’m just getting old and cranky, I don’t know.

Oh Lucy puggle. She loves the sunshine.

Almost as much as she likes digging for treasures in the garden.

growing meyer lemons

About those Meyer lemons….

I feel like I am just DAYS AWAY from harvesting them and I have a ton of recipes lined up to try. It’s torture I tell you… waiting for those beauties to ripen. I never thought I’d be able to grow citrus here in Western Washington. But dreams, they do come true.

Have a great monday everyone,

~Mavis

    Good Morning Mavis,

Love your posts 😉 I did not know you can grow Meyers lemons here in our area. I love lemons 🙂 Do you keep it indoors during the winter and then take it outside during Spring Summer?

Thank you~ have a great sunny week 🙂

Patty I brought my Meyer lemon tree on to our covered porch this winter {Nov-Early March} and she did just fine. We had such a mild winter this year that I did not have to bring her inside. I hope that helps.

Wear headphones when you work out front! and sunglasses! You can ignore ALL the people walking by –

I am the same way about people. I just want to do my thing without being interrupted every 10 minutes. With us it’s always when I am mowing or just in the front of the house. We live on 11 acres and I thought it would be far enough out to deter nosy neighbors but I was wrong. I do really enjoy living out here in the sticks though. I really enjoy your blogs and have learned a lot from reading them. I also like your sense of humor.
