Yesterday the puggle princess and I spent some time in the garden harvesting a few vegetables for this week’s dinner recipes.

homegrown carrots

Winter carrots. So sweet and 10 million times better than store bought.

I have a feeling we won’t be buying store bought beets anytime soon.

How about YOU? What are you harvesting these days?

    Oh my goodness!! Yum!
Have you had a freeze yet?
I have cabbage in the garden bed but not sure it’s going to survive!

Yes, about a few weeks ago. Our cabbage is a total goner. ๐Ÿ™

    Good morning Mavis,

I LOVE your January harvest!! I tried my first time to grow a few winter veggies that didn’t make it so well. I had planted radish, lettuce and kale. It didn’t turn out so well. I need to learn when I can plant which veggies at what times of year so that I can harvest each season. You have inspired me ๐Ÿ™‚ This is my 2nd year of learning to garden .
Your veggies look so big and healthy.

We have a very small yard…small! We live in the Quadrant homes by Costco in GH. My husband helped me put in 4 planter boxes 2 years ago that I have been using with some success. However they are bare right now and I am thinking about planting for spring. Trying to figure out when the last “frost date” will be for planting seedlings. Do you start your seeds indoors for the cool weather?
Love your webpage ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thank you

The last frost day around here is usually April 15th. I like to start most of my seedlings indoors in Feb and March. I’ll be posting about what I’m planting in real time so be sure and follow along. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lucy is the cutest thing ever. So earnest. Did you ever find out why she was huddling in a corner not long ago?

Nope. I do think it’s her way of telling me to log off for the day though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

No, but she visited the naughty corner once last week in the late afternoon while I was sitting at my desk. I really think it might be her signal for me to get off the computer and play with her.

I live in Oregon’s very wet Willamette Valley, and our last frost day is May 15. We’ve had some crazy warm weather the last few weeks so I decided to plant my peas last week in whiskey barrels. I usually wait until late February or March to plant, but I just couldn’t resist. Hopefully they’ll make it.
