This past week was a lovely one for growing vegetables here in the Pacific Northwest. Lot’s of brisk mornings and full on sunshine by 10 am. It’s been so warm in fact Lucy and I have been doing most of our gardening in the early morning hours and spending the afternoons watching documentaries and working in rug hooking projects.
It seems like every time I check the squash patch I find another one growing. I think this one is a hubbard squash.
After pulling up the zucchini plants I got it ready for the next crop.
3 rows of bush beans. With any luck we should be harvesting them the last week in September.
I also dyed up a bunch of wool and cut it into 1/4″ strips this past week.
I can’t wait to dive into a few more rug hooking projects this winter as the garden projects start to taper off a bit. I used to hook rugs all the time before I started gardening like a maniac at our last property. With a smaller lot this time around {a little over 1/3 of an acre} and all the major remodeling done I am finding I have more time on my hand {thank goodness} for other projects.
Check it out!! Out first round of red tomatoes.
We’ve still got plenty of green ones but holy canolies people, it won’t be long now before I’m, canning salsa and pasta sauce.
I sort of forgot about my green bean plants growing alongside the house and now the beans are too big to eat. No worries though, I’ll just dry the pods and plant the seeds next year and grow more beans.
The side {shaded} vegetables garden.
Natures manicure.
And last but not least, seedlings. They are doing great under the grow lights I have set up in the laundry room. The plan is to set the beet, cabbage, lettuce and broccoli starts out towards the end of August for a late fall harvest.
Now, if we could just get the weather to cool down a wee bit.
