If you have ever thought about keeping bees… go check out the post/pictures my friend Jane shared on her blog yesterday. I keep telling the HH that as soon as we bust out of suburbia, we’re totally getting a hive set up in the backyard.

Unlike her husband though, I’ll be covered head to toe in protective clothing. 😉

P.S. If you haven’t seen the documentary Burt’s Buzz {about the founder of Burt’s Bee’s} it’s totally worth 90 minutes of your time.

I am so grateful to everyone who keeps bees. We need some more bee love. We depend on them!

You totally need bees! I started two hives this spring and they are so much fun! I love watching them pollinate my blueberries, veggies and flowers. I’m cheering for you to move to the east!

We just got bees this year! Luckily we live in an older neighborhood without HOA issues. We enjoy watching them and something is pollinating my zucchini. I am not sure if I have ever seen one start out this soon.

My father raised bees when I was a kid. I have many fond memories of him working around the hives. And the honey was wonderful! Thanks for suggesting the Burt’s Bees documentary. I just watched it while doing dishes and folding laundry. It was worth the 90 minutes. What a unique and interesting man.

I have found, over the years, that I have a large number of ‘ground’ bees on my property. They are native bees and the soil and temps work so that they are the first pollinators out each spring. In my research, and from what I’ve experienced, they don’t sting and they don’t colonize. They dig little holes in the ground. What I used to thing were ant nests were actually bees. And BOY, do they pollinate! I am having a bumper crop on every fruit tree and shrub I own this year. It looks like every single flower produced a fruit, lol. Every time I go out to check on it all, I start to freak out about how I’m going to process all of it, lol…
