baby chick in garden

Yesterday “It’s a Wonderful World” by Iz came on Pandora while I was uploading pictures from the garden and I was like… Yes. Yes it is. Now that spring is here and and the grey skies have cleared it truly is a wonderful world.

It’s amazing what an entire week of sunshine can do to lift your spirits.

And baby chicks. And a puggle dog. And oh yeah, a spring garden. 😉

radish

Check it out. The French breakfast radishes I planted a few weeks ago are not only up… but we are just a week or two away from harvesting. Giddy up people. It’s time to round up the horses.

carrots

Carrots? Yep. We’ve got those too.

beets

And beets.

spring peas

And take a look at those peas plants. Aren’t they gorgeous?

raised garden beds

A sea of green. It will be here before you know it. 🙂 Happy days are here again. 🙂

Mavis, do you plan our your garden beds before planting? I have 6 new raised beds and have filled two with spring veggie seeds. I did one with the “square foot” technique and the other with short rows of different seeds. Planting the rows was easier since I didn’t lay out a permanent grid for the square foot garden. I’m finding it difficult to visualize the final result and to sit down and plan since I will have to buy some tomato and pepper starts. Any advice?

What are you having your peas climb up onto? And what is the clear ketchup bottle for?

The peas will be climbing up twigs. The water bottle is a deterrent to Lucy to stay out of the garden beds now that they are planted. 😉

    Hi Mavis,

    Love reading your blog.
Your warm(er) weather is making me jealous……I’m in zone 6a 🙁 Which zone are you in?
And are your garden beds in full sun? It looks like they are under some trees but all your veggies grow very well.
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions.

My garden area is somewhat shaded but I still manage to grow a nice little crop. I think we are zone 8 here.

Mavis, what did you plant between the rows of peas?

I have 2 rows of peas and then 2 rows of carrots then a line of twine where I’ll plant beans in a few weeks then a row of beets. 🙂
