If the Dowager Countess of Grantham was a bird, this is what she’d look like.
Is it just me, or are the prices getting a little ridiculous at Goodwill? $12.99 for a used shirt is crazy. Don’t you think?
Remember when 65 year olds actually looked like 65 year olds? Nowadays it seems like magazines edit the pictures so much that everyone looks like they’re 30 years old. I think it’s totally lame. Why can’t we all just look our age? What’s wrong with that?
Before the great zucchini massacre of 2016.

I guess it’s time to get some fall crops in. 😉
Have a great weekend everyone,

About looking your age.. when your whole job is to take care of yourself and look good..how hard can it be?
Our Goodwill has set prices.. $4 for adult shirts $4 for pants/jeans. The only thing I don’t like about that is paying $4 for a pair of shorts. I usually shop on their $2 Tuesdays or half off Saturdays. It is still the best place for video games and Halloween outfits.
Did your flamingo’s help in the destruction?? 🙂 Just love those perky guys!

Talk to me when you’re 65!

I completely agree about the goodwill prices. I was just telling my mother that you can buy things cheaper at the mall sometimes cheaper than you can at the goodwill. That’s so crazy!

We don’t have a Goodwill, but we have something similar called Deseret Industries here in Idaho. I was paying between $4-6.00 for a pair of used jeans. Went there just last night and jeans are now $10-12.00. I have been able to find better deals at department stores when they are having their clearance sales.
On the age thing, I have always looked young for my age and have been very grateful for it. Now that I am in my mid 40s some of that is going away, but it was great while it lasted!

I agree with you and everyone else who have seen Goodwill prices go up on clothes. This was on my mind just the other day when I was looking for a pair of shorts for my hubby who is losing weight. The price for some cargo jean fabric shorts was nearly $10.00. I can purchase new shorts for less on-line. I’m not sure the pricing criteria for their inventory but some items like kitchenware/glassware are very reasonable.
And on the aging issue, I agree the media has raised ridiculous expectations. I don’t necessarily like the prospects aging brings but I’m going there naturally. I do get tired of keeping up with the crazy old lady chin hairs though! The morning routines just get longer.
Love your garden – I tried one this year but it was a bust except for basil. The tomatoes and yellow zucchini were non-performers. I’m on the fence about a winter garden – too many garden predators (squirrels, rabbits, birds) here in San Diego as every stitch of green has virtually disappeared.

Ellen, try a threading salon. Best thing ever. Facial waxing is scary. I go every two weeks and those icky hairs have become tiny down easily removed.
I agree that the media has made natural aging almost shameful. But I think that it isn’t wrong to improve your appearance. So I guess I’m in the middle.

I’ve been calling it “Bad Will” for years. Ours has a relationship with our Target, which is great. I take no issue with getting the stuff that didn’t sell on clearance. Good on them both for having that relationship. I do however take issue with Bad WIll selling those items that never sold at the Target clearance prices, for more. They leave the red markdown tags on the shirts and stuff so it’s clear as day. I just have a long list of issues with that! AND…a number of years ago I picked up a piece of fabric and went to the counter to pay- price was clearly marked. The cashier decided I should pay more and said she was changing the price. I’ve since discovered this is actually illegal as the price was already marked. Anyway…Bad Will. There are plenty of other thrift stores in my area where I can both donate and shop.
Bet you didn’t expect such a fiery comment on this sweet post from me today- ha.
