I’m a little worried about the hubbard squash. Right now just about all of ours are the size of my hand. They’re going to need to pack on the pounds in the next 6-7 weeks to be harvestable.
Sap season has arrived. And I don’t like it.
Time to buy more Sluggo.
It’s late August and we are just now getting cucumbers. Crazy!
When it’s too hot to garden… I paint indoors. 😉
Have a great weekend everyone,

Our Hubbards are tiny, but our sugar pie pumpkins are huge. I finally gave up on the zucchini – too much good and just pulled the plants out, except for the ones I’m keeping for seed. I just picked the first of the pickling cukes. The season is strange

I’m sorry that you are just getting cucumbers, but I’m glad to hear it’s not just me. I’m in the Portland area and we’ve only harvested one this season. Our tomatoes have been very slow to ripen, too. Perhaps it’s from all the cool weather we’ve had.

I live in Alabama and I’m just starting to get cucumbers, too! And not many of them, unfortunately. I think I need to spend some money and buy some really soil for my raised beds next spring. If I am still living here, that is. I may be moving to Tennessee to live with my Daddy. He is 84, in good health but lonely and not eating right. I have stage IV pancreatic cancer but I am doing real good and my be eligible for surgery before the end of the year. We can help each other. I hate to give up my garden apartment but I love my Daddy more than the apartment, of course, and it is an honor to be able to help him out. Anyway, strange growing in the gardens this year.

Is that area that you are painting a little loft? What do you use it for? I love it as like a little reading nook!

The house was built in the 90’s so I’m guessing it was made as a place to put plants or something. I don’t have anything there because I think it’s a super awkward space. And… I don’t want to dust. 🙂

I’m also interested in that space you are painting. Are you going to do anything with it? Have a great weekend!
Mavis Butterfield says
No, I am just leaving it as it is.

Tried a new Hubbard this year, Boston Marrow…amazing!! It doesn’t mind cool weather in the spring, just grew like crazy. Planted out on May 10, had a cool May and June. We have a lot more heat in July and August than you, but on Aug 20 harvested 548 pounds of squash from 12 plants growing in a 100 square foot garden bed! It did sprawl into the pathways. You might find that in the cool Seattle weather they do better for you than other Hubbards. This is the first year growing this one, so don’t know if this is normal or not…I’d highly recommend it.

Holy cow that is a lot of squash! I’ll put it on my list for next year. Thanks.
