Miss Lucy Puggle apparently adores the smell of mint.
Fresh herbs…. soon to be dried herbs.
Anyone know what these are? I found this gaggle of bugs munching the leaves of a volunteer potato plant last night. They look like baby ladybugs… but I could be wrong.
Goodbye beautiful hydrangea {?} bush… I’ll see you again next time.
From seed to harvest in just 40 days. Not too shabby if you ask me. 😉
Have a great weekend everyone,

Those may be four-lined plant bugs. I’ve got them on my oregano and sage and they are doing a fair bit of damage.

They look like they might be potato beetle larvae nearing the adult phase.
Do you find self-dried herbs to be as good as storebought? Ours seemed to turn into pencil shavings when I tried it–no smell left, and very little flavor. Is there a trick to keeping them fragrant and flavorful?

Colorado Potato Beetle Larvae are what you have. The best way to get rid of them is to just smoosh them. 🙁

Those bugs are colorado potato beetles – squish and destroy or your plants will be decimated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_potato_beetle

Those little “lady bug like” bugs look like potato beetle babies to me. This link on wikipedia has a picture of them in larva stage and adult. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_potato_beetle Here are suggestions on how to control them from Rodale’s: http://www.rodalesorganiclife.com/garden/potato-beetle-control

Hi Mavis,
That is an Oak Leaf Hydrangea that you have there. We have quite a few in our landscaping here in Coastal Georgia and love them. They bloom for a loooong time!
Happy Weekend!

Those are potato bugs. Our local paper had something about them a week or so ago and identified them that way. From the picture, looks like they may have already been chomping on our potato vine. The hydrangea is an oak leaf hydrangea. I have one and it smells so good and attracts lots of bees. Mine starts out white, turns pink and then dries to brown for the winter months.

Those are potato bugs. If you’ve never seen them you are lucky. They are about as reliable as sunshine if you plant potatoes here in the South! They will decimate the plants. I use diatomaceous earth on them but need to redo it when we get rain.
