Yesterday, the weather reached 70 degrees in our backyard. Tomorrow…. the weather forecast is calling for sunny skies and a high of 81. Can you believe it?
Lucy has been having a blast outside with her babies following them around the backyard and herding them together for me to catch when it’s time to go in. We hand them over to the Hillbillys in a few weeks and I know Lucy is going to miss them dearly. Luckily they live close by and we’ll be able to visit.
The last few days our Silver Cochin has been acting a little funny. Little HB and I predicted on day 3 that she was a he. At first I tried to tell myself maybe the silver cochin was just a few days older than the others… but now, I feel like there is no mistake. We definitely have a roo on our flock.
This bird is feisty and will give you a run for it’s money when it’s time to go in, be held or shooed away when it’s time to replace the food or water in its warming box.
The girls just sit back and watch the show… as if knowing his days might be numbered. The last time the HB’s mistakenly got a rooster they were able to gift him to a farm down the road from them. And this time, will be no different.
I’ve already put Mrs. HB on alert. Now all we have to do is wait and see if she really is a he.
Can you see the difference in the chicks? Do you think we have a roo?
