Real, pulled fresh from the garden carrots taste nothing like store bought carrots. I don’t know why, but it amazes me everytime I bite into real, homegrown carrot.
The original baby carrot. 🙂
Right now I am picking tomatoes every 3 days. Most years I can harvest tomatoes through the end of September. The weatherman is predicting a mild winter though so I’m hoping our tomato picking days will be stretched to early October. We’ll see.Â
This year I tried a new {to me} variety. Patio tomatoes. Have you grown those before? Honestly, I am not super impressed. Here we are in early September and they are just now ripening. They are a great slicing tomato… but honestly, I think I’m an heirloom snob and don’t think I’ll be growing them next year.Â
The winter carrots have been planted in the garden bed below my office window. I’m thinking four rows should be enough.
Earlier this spring we planted 9 blueberry bushes and they are really starting to come in now. We won’t have enough for jam this year but it’s still fun to walk by and pick a handful for snacking.
And the squash patch. It’s creeping along… slowly but steadily.
As an afterthought, I planted a packet of bean seeds at the base of one of the pine trees we have on the side garden. I had NO IDEA the beans would do so well. Next year you can bet I’ll be planting seeds at the base of ALL MY TREES.
