A few months ago several readers suggested I try Quinn popcorn when I wrote about my mother giving me her popcorn popper to add to my garage sale pile {it was too difficult for her to clean}. For our “date day” last week the HH and I decided to stay in and watch movies. I think we all know you can’t have a movie date without popcorn, so I figured it was a good time to treat ourselves to some fancy popcorn.

The Vermont Maple and Sea Salt popcorn we tried was absolutely delicious {we haven’t tried the other box yet}. When I went to throw away the popcorn bag I noticed there was a compostable stamp on it. Well now, that’s something you don’t see everyday.

So, after my trusty assistant cleaned the bag, I decided to give it a go and bury the bags in my garden boxes.

Lucy, she’s such a good helper. 😉

And a bit of a wild one. I set the bag down to dig my hole and she ran off with the popcorn bag. What a stinker. quinn popcorn compostable bags

Once both bags were back in my possession, I layed them flat and covered them with about a foot of garden soil. I don’t know how long they’ll take to break down, but I’m excited to find out.

Garden experiments, they’re kind of fun, especially when they involve popcorn bags and puggle dogs.

Will you be trying any experiments in your garden this year? Do tell.

Haha. She looks a little sad when she realized that you were going to bury the bag.

I know, let’s hope she doesn’t dig it up. 😉

I wanted to save money filling my 16″ deep garden beds so the bottom layer is chicken manure waste (didn’t wait for it to compost) and fall leaves. I figure it will be awhile before plant roots are that deep.

I used to bury kitchen waste, and my brilliant and oh-so-helpful jack Russell would carefully dig it up and make a neat pile of it all on the grass. She never missed a single eggshell or banana peel. Don’t even ask me about her equally perfectly organized squirrel cemetery…

I’m wondering what the results are. I’m thinking of buying Quinn if it’s really compostsble.

    Thanks!

Ohh I totally forgot about that. I’ll have to dig around and check. 🙂
